In Memory

When my mother passed away many years ago she asked to be cremated and her ashes sprinkled near Newport, OR. She had a stroke so communication was difficult with her the last few years of her life. Her actual request was MO'S with a throwing motion. Mom and I used to take a trip to the coast together once a year when we lived in Oregon and we always ate chowder at Mo's.

Living in Arizona and being busy with work and just life, mom resided in the gun safe for several years and oddly, I found it comforting to have her around. I know, I know, WEIRD!

So yesterday was the DAY! We drove up to the Oregon coast, bought a bright sand pail and found a solitary beach, waded into the ocean and sprinkled mom into the waves. It was awesome. It was a sunny day and as we approached the water, a fog bank rolled in, and then dissipated just where we were at. So we had clear sunshine with fog rolling around to the side and behind us. We had been sharing stories about her with each other and off she went into the water with a prayer. We then started back home and ended up having dinner at Mo's in Florence in honor of Mom.

I like to think she enjoyed the day.

Beef & Oatmeal Biscuit-oti

CHECK IT OUT!
I tried the dog treat recipe using rice flour and I must report success. You have to reduce the liquid just as you must reduce the flour. It appears 3/4 cup of rice flour equals 1 cup wheat flour. Good to know. I tried a beef broth mixed with oatmeal and wheat flour and made it like you would biscotti. Baked, cut in slices and baked again. I even dipped the ends in melted white candy chips...NO chocolate for puppies. Too Cute! Off to the Farmer's Market today.

Pink Birthday Card

I actually posted on this really cool website The Spotted Canary. They had a sketch challenge that sparked my imagination. Here is a picture and I have included the link. Some of the artwork from the other gals is wonderful.

Rice VS. Wheat

OK, Sadie loves the peanut butter dog biscuits, but they are made with wheat flour. Many labs have allergies to wheat and corn and Maggie appears to be in that category, (her gas passing is beyond aromatic...ugh). Now we are trying out peanut butter treats made with rice flour. I will continue to post this saga as I test recipes.

Dental Saga

I do not recommend getting a toothache on a weekend or far from your regular dentist. I finally found a dentist willing to see me in Arcata, CA. $120 later I have a referral to an endodontist and a prescription for antibiotics clutched in my hand. Now I have a choice of waiting until the 27th for an endodontist in Eureka (30 miles away) or one in Grants Pass on the 22nd (120 miles away). Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

Dog Treats

Loved by Dogs everywhere....Maggie is guarding the treats from Sadie!
I wanted to share my latest venture...homemade, all natural dog treats. I made them with whole wheat flour, white flour, peanut butter and canola oil. I stamped them before I baked them. Even my picky princess, Sadie, loves them. I will have them for sale at the Crescent City Farmer's Market on Saturday along with my handmade cards.

It is the Fourth!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! Today will be a quiet evening at home with some BBQ corn (wrapped in bacon), hamburgers, meat kabobs and Laton's famous baked beans. I can feel my arteries hardening at the visualization of all this. LOL. Tim and Stacy (maintenance hosts at Patrick's Point) will join us for dinner. They are the expert corn roasters and are going to teach us the technique. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.
